If you have students in the family, chances are you may have wondered how the time they spend on social media may be affecting their grades.

German Researchers analyzed 59 studies and found four major things: On the positive side students who use social media intensively to communicate about school-related topics tend to have slightly better grades and students who are particularly active on social media do not spend less time studying.

On the negative side students who use social media a lot while studying or doing homework tend to perform slightly worse than other students and pupils who log onto social media very frequently and regularly post messages and photos have slightly lower grades as well.

Scientists say the takeaway is that depending how it's used, social media use can effect grades, but it seems the impact - positive or negative - is minimal. (EurekaAlert)
