Strong Mayor Issue Back

The strong mayor issue is likely to be back on the ballot in the near future…despite the fact that the city is now in the process of hiring a new manager…Bruce Smith with the group citizens for safe streets and lower taxes says they’re meeting again…talking about possibly asking voters in the future to make a change in the way the city conducts it’s business…he says the group held off the last year to see if things would improve in the City of Yakima. Smith says that hasn’t happened…the reason why the group is now talking about the strong mayor proposal again.

Smith and others believe a strong mayor would be able to make major decisions faster than the current council manager form of government. The issue has failed in past votes…but Smith says he believes people may now be ready for a change.
