State employees in Yakima rallied Thursday, pushing for the state legislature to approve a budget hoping they won't be temporarily laid off on July 1. The Yakima Rally happened in front of the Department of Labor and Industries office. Employees like Rebecca Withrow are frustrated, but they aren't just concerned for themselves, they say a statewide shut down of services will directly impact the local families who need them. She says if legislature doesn't approve the 2015 budget she'll be out of a job and more importantly the families she works with in social services will be without state care and support. "I serve needy people. If I don't have a job they don't get served." So Withrow is hoping legislators can agree on a budget for the 2015 year, State employees haven't seen a pay raise in close to seven years, so part of their demands ask for a 4.8 percent pay increase over the next two years.
