If you are not a subscriber to the Yakima Herald Republic's website, then you will have to pay* to access online articles starting Tuesday.

Many people have ceased ordering newspaper delivery services and many newspapers find themselves in the dilemma of trying to be profitable while maintaining a viable presence online, where most websites do not charge for access.

In an important notice article on the main page of the Herald's website, notice is being given to non-subscribers that they "will also have an opportunity to sample our premium content until the monthly threshold of free articles, initially 15, is reached."

The newspaper is owned by The Seattle Times Co., which also owns the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin and The Seattle Times.
