The weekend is upon us, it’s going to be hot, so why not spend the time stretched out in the old hammock under the shade tree?  Because according to a report in Mashable you need to stand for two hours a day, that’s why!!Researchers have debated for a few years now-- how much sitting each day is unhealthy and how much of our day should we be standing? The latest findings show we should be standing for two hours a day.

British experts are now making the specific recommendation that office workers stand for at least two hours a day, and they warn against the dangers of prolonged sitting. That is NOT what a radio talk show person wants to hear! Even if it’s said with a really cool British accent!

One of the authors of the new guidelines says, "Even if you're meeting your physical activity guidelines, you cannot undo the risks of prolonged sitting."  That sounds serious…you cannot undo!  Yikes!

According to the guidelines, people who sit the most have more than twice the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease which is why they suggest companies should reconsider the culture around taking regular breaks and think about whether meetings could be held standing up or walking.
