Spokane Picks New Police Chief And It’s Not Yakima’s Rizzi

The city of Spokane has a new police chief, and it's not Yakima Police Chief Dominic Rizzi Jr.

Rizzi  was one of two candidates vying for the position. The other person was Robert Lehner, Chief of the Elk Grove (Calif.) Police Department.

Spokane Mayor David Condon didn't pick either one, though -- instead, he named Assistant Spokane Police Department Chief Craig Meidl, who was not officially in the running for chief. The mayor says sometimes it take a search far and wide to determine the city has what it needs in its own department.

Meanwhile Rizzi, who was not available for comment today will continue as police chief in Yakima.
