On March 22, 1990 The President of the United States, George H.W. Bush, was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, “I do not like broccoli. And I haven't liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it. And I'm President of the United States and I'm not going to eat any more broccoli.”   Bush was a fighter pilot, Congressman, Ambassador to the UN, Vice President, CIA Director and President of these here United States– how do you argue against a resume like that!  I took that man’s personal story  to heart.  Broccoli hasn’t been welcome at my table ever since.

For those who ignored the President’s observation, maybe this will change your mind.  Check out this headline: STORE CHAIN PULLS BROCCOLI AFTER VENOMOUS SPIDER DISCOVERIES.

Ok, got your attention now, mate?  Well simmer down. The story is out of Australia, but seriously! The spider is kind of like the Outback’s version of the Black Widow!

According to the United Press International, an Australian supermarket –Woolworth’s - recalled a batch of broccoli after customers reported finding venomous redback spiders inside the produce. A store representative says they are working with suppliers to insure a safe food supply after a customer and facebook friend notified them of a “nasty surprise”.

26 years earlier G.H.W.B set the table on acceptable veggies for us all and it didn’t include broccoli.  That’s one Great American! (UPI)
