Special Ceremony in Wapato Saturday to Rename Street

The city of Wapato on Saturday will rename a street to honor of a Medal of Honor recipient from Wapato who was killed in World War II.

Wapato Mayor Jesse Farias says the Wapato City Council has approved changing the name of Dove Lane to Reinhardt J. Keppler Lane.

"It's a street that goes by the community center and the Wapato Veterans Memorial is located at that intersection so it's a heavily used street," Farias says.

Keppler was a graduate of Wapato High School who died in 1942 at age 24 as a 1st Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy when the ship he was on was hit by a Japanese bomber. Saturday's ceremony is set for 10 a.m. at the Wapato Community Center.
