For all the negative comments and concerns about the dark side of social media, there are lots of benefits and they aren't just for the young. New data shows that older people can feel increased self-confidence and a stronger sense of personal identity when they use social networks like Twitter.  Hashtag#wagontrainswest.  Hashtag#Isurvivedthedepression.Ok, just kidding  but check out the results of this study.  Of 76 participants between the ages of 60 and 95, half were trained in how to use the internet on a computer, including how to use social networks, email and Skype. Those who were trained received a computer they were allowed to keep for 12 months, including their three-month training period.

Study leader Dr. Thomas Morton says, "Human beings are social animals, and it's no surprise that we tend to do better when we have the capacity to connect with others. But what can be surprising is just how important social connections are to cognitive and physical health. People who are socially isolated or who experience loneliness are more vulnerable to disease and decline."  (Daily Mail)

So we can conclude it’s good to teach old dogs new tech tricks because it makes for a happier and healthier old dogs.   No offense Gramps!
