Small Washington Town Without Water Due to Drilling Accident

OLYMPIA (AP) — State officials say a small town about 50 miles southeast of Seattle is without water after a water line was damaged during geological survey drilling.

The Washington Department of Health said in a news release the town of Carbonado shut down water service Wednesday to residents and businesses.

A water line break causes it to lose pressure which could allow for potentially harmful contaminants to enter the water system.

The advisory affects 238 homes, a school, a saloon and a church.

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department is working with food service establishments and the school on safety procedures during the outage.

The advisory will remain in effect until water quality tests indicate the water is safe to drink.
