Yakimanians are pet people, no question about it! Our pet rescue efforts and Animal fund raisers are high profile and successful.  Heck even I got talked into bringing home a couple of rescue dogs.  So what’s next?  Time off from work when your pet passes away?  Yup.

Some companies are offering employees just that! According to a report from CBS News,  Pet insurance company Trupanion gives employees one paid pet bereavement day, while Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants allows managers to grant up to three days away from work.

There are even pet loss counselors.  Janet Zimmerman is one who says 30 percent of pet owners surveyed say the grief and sadness after losing an animal lasted for at least six months so it's critical that people take time from off from work to grieve the death of a pet.
