The Yakima County Commissioners next week are expected to approve a project that will improve safety at the intersection of Yakima Valley Highway and Gurley Road. The work is part of a $1.6 million  settlement after Angel Mendoza was killed in a crash in the intersection in 2015.
The intersection did not have yield or other signs in the area warning of oncoming traffic when Mendoza died in the crash. A Yakima attorney who represented the Mendoza family says part of the settlement was to make the intersection safer.
