The Yakima Fire Department will hold a remembrance this morning for those who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks 13 years ago in New York City, Washington, D.C., and in the plane that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

The ceremony will be at 8:40 this morning on the Eighth Street side of the Yakima Convention Center. It will include a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., a short speech and a closing prayer by department chaplain Susan Whitman.

This ceremony will welcome anyone from the public to pay tribute and honor the nearly 3,000 civilians and 400 emergency responders who died in the attacks on our country on Sept. 11, 2001.

Members of the public are encouraged to arrive by 8:30 in the morning.
