People may soon be allowed to invest private money in new forms of public housing. A change in state law merges Section 8 and Section 9 housing. Currently, Section 8 housing allows private investments while Section 9 is entirely publicly-funded. Senator Patty Murray announced on Thursday that the goal is to get investors to boost the local economy by improving Section 9 housing with private investment. The rental assistance demonstration program could take effect in about a year.
