A crash on Interstate 82 Wednesday morning snarled traffic for the morning commute.

Washington State Patrol troopers say 58-year-old John Woodell lost control of his semi truck near the Fair Avenue exit and slid across the bridge, and then partially rolled over the embankment.

The driver's wife, 62-year-old Penelope Woodell, was injured while sleeping in the semi. She was airlifted to a Seattle hospital where she is in serious condition.

Troopers said the crash also ruptured the truck's diesel fuel tanks. The state department of ecology worked most of the morning to clean the spill.

The crash reduced traffic to one lane in the area but all lanes were reopened by noon Wednesday.
