Starting today, the Selah Center Firing Center Road Park and Ride will be closed to expand the lot as it has grown in popularity.

The project, which will run through Aug. 18, will more than double the number of available parking spots to an expected 116 according to a press release by the City of Yakima.

The lot currently sits next to a gas station on 51 Firing Center Road and is primarily used by commuters, manny of whom use the Ellensburg-Yakima Commuter bus.

Funding for the expansion is coming from a state grant of $240,000.

There will be limited spots available east of the current lot during the work, but riders are encouraged to find alternative arrangements.
