Washington state's top election official is predicting that 62 percent of eligible voters will participate in the November election.

Secretary of State Kim Wyman said Friday that while the turnout forecast is lower than the turnout for the two previous midterm elections, it is expected to be higher than the last midterm election that didn't have a U.S. Senate race. That was in 2002, and the turnout was 56.4 percent.

Statewide, voters will weigh in on two gun-related initiatives dealing with background checks and a class size initiative, as well as four state Supreme Court races. There are also 10 congressional races, and dozens of legislative contests.

The secretary of state's office says that about 65,000 military and overseas ballots are going out by Saturday, many of them sent electronically. The remainder of the state's 3.8 million registered voters will start receiving their ballots in the mail in the middle of October.
