OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Jay Inslee has ordered Washington state lawmakers to convene for a second special session on this morning.

The governor also told lawmakers he wants them to move their negotiations over the state's more than $38 billion two-year operating budget to his office, starting Monday morning.

Lawmakers completed their first special session Thursday without producing an operating budget.

Republican leaders from the Senate and Democratic leaders from the House say they are getting closer to a deal. The Senate made a new budget proposal Thursday.

Both the House Democrats and the governor said the Senate budget offers a good outline of why the state needs new tax revenue to pay for things like salary increases for teachers.
