The regular tenants for six months out of the year at Seattle's Safeco Field, Major League Baseball's Mariners, have rarely let the ballpark be used for anything other than, well, baseball. That is going to change later this spring when the diamond is replaced by a rock-and-roll stage.

Safeco has hosted WWE's WrestleMania, conducted the short-lived college football Seattle Bowl game and housed shows by Sir Paul McCartney as well as Jay-Z and Beyonce.

At a press conference earlier today, Mariners President Kevin Mather announced that the club will host a concert by pop music icon Billy Joel on Friday, May 20th.  After a seven year absence, Joel returns to Seattle for his only date schedule in the state of Washington in 2016. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 5th at 10 a.m. at LiveNation.com.

With over 150 million records sold over the past quarter century and owner of six Grammy awards, Joel ranks as one of most popular recording artists and respected entertainers in music history. He is also  the sixth best-selling recording artist of all time and the third best-selling solo artist.
