Seahawks Wilson Changing The Experts’ Minds

After leading his team to an overtime win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks  rookie quarterback Russell Wilson is turning the heads of a lot of national pro football writers and bloggers, including one that never gives the Seahawks much credit for anything.

Using his arm, legs and especially his head in leading the Seahawks in two crucial touchdown drives Sunday in Chicago, quarterback Russell Wilson is getting a lot of attention from national sports writers.

One blogger who never has had a lot of positive things to say about the seahawks, even when they are having success, is CBS Sportsline.com’s Pete Prisco.  Prisco is usually quick to denigrate the NFL team from “southern Alaska” , not giving them much credit even in 2005 when Seattle was 13-3 and went to Superbowl XL.

It was surprising to read what he had to say in his Monday Musings column:

I was wrong about Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. The kid is damn good. I wasn’t sure if a 5-foot-11 quarterback could be successful in the NFL. And when he won only one game on the road in his first five, I still wasn’t sure. But his play against the Bears on Sunday convinced me that this kid could be a heck of a quarterback. His last drive in the fourth quarter for the go-ahead score was impressive, but his game-winning drive in overtime topped it. He won the game by throwing a touchdown pass to Sidney Rice, but he made some other really impressive throws — including one on the run on third-and-12. Wilson’s ability to get away from pressure and throw on the move was remarkable. He threw for 293 yards and ran for 71 against the Bears. Wilson has nine touchdown passes and no interceptions in the last four games.

The Seahawks take on Arizona this Sunday at 11 on AM 1280 and FM 99.3 Newstalk KIT.
