Seattle's starting tight end underwent ankle surgery in September and it was hoped he could play again this season.

Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters at his Wednesday press conference that Miller's recovery did not go as well as hoped. Carroll related that the eight-year pro from Arizona State would undergo a second ankle surgery, but couldn't say how it would affect Miller's off season.

Carroll also told reporters that six time pro Bowler Kevin Williams will step into the starting role for defensive tackle Brandon Mebane, who is out for the season with a torn hamstring. The coach said the the injury should not affect Mebane next season.

Coach Carroll also said that middle linebacker Bobby Wagner, out with a toe injury, has resumed running and agility drills and should be back against the Cardinals on Nov. 23.

Talking about the tight ends, Carroll said that Tony Moeaki would play Sunday against the Chiefs. Moeaki was signed last week, but was inactive for the Giants game.
