Seahawks No.1 in Week One NFL Power Rankings

The Seattle Seahawks begin the 2014 NFL season right where they ended it after their Super Bowl XLVIII victory, at the top of the heap.

At ESPN, the panel of experts said:

The past eight Super Bowl champions before Seattle failed to win a playoff game in the next year. A Fail Mary rematch is the Seahawks' first step to avoid that.

Even after replenishing the talent on defense, it’s the offense that has stood out during the preseason. Russell Wilson looks sharper and he enters the season with a much better supporting cast, including a healthy Percy Harvin and a dynamic rookie in Paul Richardson, who is in the DeSean Jackson mold.

 

At NFL.com, Elliott Harrison says the Seahawks are the top dog:

Still the best team in football. It was true in early February, it was true after the draft and it's true now. One interesting note pertains to the wideouts: As disparaged as that group is, consider that Percy Harvin is healthy entering the season, Doug Baldwin is very reliable and Jermaine Kearse's physical style of play shone brightly in wins over two great teams in 2013, the Panthers and Broncos.

 

Pat Kirwan at CBS Sports.com agrees:

They have had a very impressive preseason and look as sharp as they did at the end of 2013. I don't expect the new emphasis on illegal contact and pass interference to hurt the Seahawks. They were the most penalized team last year and won it all.
