Talking with a Seattle radio station Monday, Pete Carrol talked about the reported strained relationship between the Seahawks' front office and running back Marshawn Lynch.

Appearing on Seattle's ESPN 710, Carroll said that the frosty conditions between the team and Lynch probably go back to last summer's contract situation. He said that he and Lynch "were working through it."

“I think it still goes back to summertime, and talking about the contract and stuff like that,” Carroll said. “Not everything works out exactly the way you want it.”

The Seahawks did rework Lynch's contract somewhat, getting the "Beast Mode" back $1.5 million in guaranteed money.

“We will do everything we can to keep our guys with us,” Carroll said. “Marshawn was the first guy that we turned to way back then because he deserved it, he had earned it. He had been the guy that had shown that special quality and those leadership, the makeup that we cherish so much — the competitiveness and all of that."

Lynch has replied by playing possibly the best football of his career.  Against Kansas City he carried the ball 24 times for 124 yards in a 24-20 loss.

Another part of the equation could be the increased scrutiny of a 6-4 start for a team that was a pre season favorite to return to the Super Bowl this season.
