The wide receiver will have surgery on his injured hip after getting a second opinion in New York on Tuesday.

Seahawks Insider Clare Farnsworth reported on Tuesday evening at seahawks.com:

Percy Harvin will have surgery on Thursday to deal with the injury that forced the Seahawks to place the receiver/returner/runner on the physical unable to perform list when training camp opened last week.

Harvin, who was obtained in an offseason trade with the Vikings, went to New York for a second opinion on the best way to deal with the injury. The club announced the need for surgery late Tuesday, but no other details were made available.

The Seahawks were looking at Harvin's presence as another productive option in an already potent offense.

Coach Pete Carroll said after Tuesday's practice that “We continue to progress with this simple thought that we’re going do whatever we need to do to help Percy be right. Whatever that is.”
