High school girls in the area have the opportunity to take part in interactive and visual experiments like extracting DNA from a banana. Girl Scouts USA are offering a program call "Imagine: Your STEM Career. STEM standing for science, technology, engineering and math. The program is designed to help girls explore careers in the science and math field. A grant from AT&T is available to help cover participation and the Girl Scout membership fee.

Already 75 Grandview High School girls are participating in the program as part of their summer school. The program is designed to be high energy, fun and informal. The sessions provide a chance for girls to learn from women in science careers and expand on their leadership skills. Yakima High School girls can register by July 18th for the STEM program. The sessions will  held at Southeast Community Center at 211 7th Street. It will run from 1pm to 5pm.
