Memorial Day is right around the corner and the scammers know you are in the mood to help. That's why the Better Business Bureau (BBB) says they are targeting people in Yakima this week. Chelsea Dannon with the BBB of Central Washington says anytime holidays happen, scammers start to pray on your emotions. So if you get a call from someone asking you to help out a veteran or their families, do your homework. Dannon says ask how much of your donation actually goes to help those in need. Ask for a company address and a phone number. Then she says hang up and use that information to cross check with the Better Business Bureau. Dannon also says even if you then feel confident about the organization don't donate your dollars. She says to avoid a big hassle find a local organization that helps the military so you know that you are not being scammed.
