Today, a look at a park that owes it's beginnings to the Mount St. Helens eruption and ash fall of May 18th, 1980.

Chesterly Park is one of Yakima's  most used multi use parks. It is a popular soccer complex with 6 fields, and it is also home to Yakima's first skate park.

The Chesterly Park site was once vacant city property in northwest Yakima along 40th Avenue. In the days following the May 18th, 1980 eruption of  Mount St. Helens, the accumulated volcanic ash that had fallen on the city was dumped on this property. Today it is one of the city's beautiful green spaces.

Facilities at Chesterly park include:

  • Six soccer fields
  • Skate Park
  • Play Equipment
  • Picnic Shelter
  • Tables & Grills
  • Restrooms & Parking
