People who aren’t happy with the current presidential candidates may soon have another choice: Roseanne Barr. The actress and comedian said Thursday she’s running for the Green Party’s nomination.
And she’s not joking.
The Green Party will select its nominee at a Baltimore convention in July, and the Emmy-winning sitcom star said she’s already submitted paperwork to put herself in the running.
In a questionnaire submitted to Green Party candidates, she wrote, “I will barnstorm American living rooms … Mainstream media will be unable to ignore me, but more importantly they will be unable to overlook the needs of average Americans in the run-up to the 2012 election.”
A statement from Barr said she’s been fighting for working-class families and women for decades, adding, “The Democrats and Republicans have proven that they are servants — bought and paid for by the 1% — who are not doing what’s in the best interest of the American people.”
Barr’s hit TV comedy ‘Roseanne,’ in which she played the wise-cracking mom in a blue-collar family, aired from 1988-1997. She currently has a 46-acre macadamia nut farm in Hawaii.
