A man robbed an employee who was delivering his food at the Sonic Drive-In Tuesday.

The suspect parked his car in in the lot and placed an order. When the employee returned with the order, the male driver produced a handgun and demanded the cash that the employee was carrying. The employee complied with the robber’s demands and the robber and a passenger fled in a green sedan.

An officer with the Union Gap Police Department located a possible suspect vehicle on I-82 eastbound and stopped the vehicle. Following contact with the driver, the suspect fled on foot into a field adjacent to the freeway. Several officers converged on the scene and a K-9 track was initiated.

Officers with the Yakima Police Department, Union Gap Police Department, Washington State Patrol and the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search for the suspect. The suspect was not located after a lengthy search.

A female passenger was later arrested as an accomplice and charges for her are forthcoming. She was booked into the Yakima County Jail.
