The summer road construction season that will affect nearly every part of Yakima will be in full swing the week of May 19.

The city of Yakima is spending $15 million on what is called a "grind and overlay" project. The plan is to repave nearly 90 miles of roads within the city.

Starting May 19, residents can expect closures and delays at the following intersections between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.

  • 40th Avenue between Fruitvale Boulevard and Summitview Avenue
  • Lincoln Avenue between 24th Avenue and 32nd Avenue
  • 24th Avenue between Nob Hill Boulevard and Washington Avenue
  • Nob Hill Boulevard between 32nd Avenue and 48th Avenue

Some of these roads will also be seeing lane closures overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The city recommends finding alternate routes, but they will try to maintain access to businesses and homes as much as possible.
