OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has extended a road closure due to a timber harvest and chipping operation in the Ahtanum State Forest, 30 miles west of Yakima. Operations will require closing the Middle Fork Ahtanum Road (A2000) during the week. Access will be allowed on weekends from 6 p.m. Friday through 8 p.m. on Sunday.

 Tree Phones Campground will be closed during the weekday operations.

Eagles Nest Vista and Clover Flats Campground will be accessible from the A2000 Road once the snow melts.

All other recreation sites will be open and accessible by the North Fork and Sedge Ridge roads.

When:   June 11 – November 30. Weekdays only.

Road and recreation areas will be open on weekends from 6 p.m. Fridays through 8 p.m. Sundays.

Where:  A2000 from Whites Ridge Trailhead to Tree Phones Campground in the southwest part of the forest.

Why:    DNR timber harvest and chipping operation were originally scheduled to be completed by October 31. The operations were delayed due to fire activity in the area. Operations will continue until November 30.
