The next step in the process to redesign downtown is a chance to view some proposed plans for a proposed plaza.

Yakima Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins says a design team is now putting together three different designs that will be available for public viewing in late July.

As they developing those concepts they’ll also be talking with our parking consultants to figure out how each plan would work in downtown Yakima.

Hawkins says a proposed design that has been on the city website may be creating some confusion. He says it is just one of many possible designs that the city is looking at but nothing is set in stone. No design has been chosen and that everything is conceptual at this point.

Hawkins and other city officials recently returned from Bend and Medford Oregon to see how those cities are taking advantage of downtown plazas and parks.
