The Yakima City Council Tuesday heard from a large group of people asking the council to reconsider the vote that defeated a resolution that would have made Yakima a 'welcoming' city. Many people in the audience spoke out about the issue even though it wasn't on the agenda. The council originally voted on the resolution on January 17th. It was defeated on a 4-3 vote with council members Dulce Gutierrez, Carmen Mendez and Avina Gutierrez voting in favor of the measure. The council on Tuesday did not take a new vote on the issue but did decide to hold a public meeting on February 23rd to further discuss the 'welcoming city resolution' however a location for the meeting hasn't yet been announced.
