The success of the Yakima Valley wine industry has generated many a smile on both sides of the tasting room table. Now we find that drinking wine may help preserve those smiles! From the Daily Mail:

New research finds that drinking red wine can actually help prevent cavities. Spanish researchers found this by growing the bacteria responsible for dental disease before treating it with different liquids including red wine, red wine without alcohol, and red wine spiked with grape seed extract.

They found that red wine with or without alcohol and wine with grape seed extract were the most effective at getting rid of the bacteria. Researchers hope the discovery will lead to the development of natural products to ward of dental disease.

I can see it now .... "No really, officer — I haven't been drinking, it's just my toothpaste"!

Cheers! Oh, and SMILE!
