The American Red Cross wants people to survive house

fires it's why volunteers will be knocking on doors in Yakima on Saturday to make sure people have working smoke alarms. Peggy Hoggarth is the Executive Director of the American Red Cross in Central Washington who tells KIT News "We have a five year initiative all across the country. Our goal is to reduce death and injury caused by home fires by 25 percent." The Red Cross is working closely with the Yakima Fire Department. Volunteers will knock on doors Saturday to either replace batteries or make appointments to install smoke alarms. Volunteers are needed to help canvass neighborhoods Saturday and for the installations on October 24th.
