TRI-CITIES, Wash. (AP) — The rape trial for a former Pasco police officer, also charged in a separate case for the 1986 slaying of a Spokane prostitute, has been postponed.

The Tri-City Herald reports Richard Aguirre's trial was pushed back on Tuesday to give the prosecution time to prepare for the late addition of a defense witness. The trial is now set for July 6.

Aguirre resigned from the Pasco Police Department last year after being placed on leave during the sexual assault investigation.

Aguirre also faces a November trial in connection with the beating and strangulation of Ruby Doss. He was allegedly linked to the crime 29 years after it happened by DNA evidence found on a condom near Doss' body.

His lawyers previously argued he wasn't in the country at the time of the killing.
