The Yakima YWCA is starting the Purple Purse Challenge this week to hopefully win $100,000 from Allstate Insurance Company so the agency can help more domestic violence victims. YWCA Executive Director Erin Black says the Yakima YWCA is one of only 146 agencies in the U.S. competing for the money. Black it's a social media competition to raise awareness and donations. "We benefit by people getting on our Facebook page and making a donation. If we raise the most money by October 2nd then Allstate will write us a check for $100,000." Black is hoping you'll like the YWCA Facebook page and encourage others to do the same and donate. Black says they're doing all they can to remind people of the competition including hanging dozens of purple bows on Yakima Avenue on Sunday.
All the money raised in the campaign will be used to help an average of 4 thousand domestic violence victims who seek help at the Yakima YWCA every year.
