Some fun holiday activities are being planned for this winter in downtown Yakima.

City Economic Development Manager Sean Hawkins says, "we're really trying to put together a coordinated picture of activity. There's a lot going on downtown in December."

All the fun starts with a pumpkin carving contest on North Front Street on Oct. 25 and then Hawkins says they will begin preparing for Christmas.

Hawkins says he is already putting together plans for the Light Up The Plaza event set for Friday, Dec. 5. A holiday event open house will be held on December 6 on Front Street and then The Downtown Lighted Parade is set for Sunday December 7.

During the month of December, there will also be free rides in a horse drawn carriage downtown.
