It's called the Veterans History Project and it's an ongoing effort to gather the stories of America's veterans to preserve them for future generations. The American Red Cross, in partnership with the Library of Congress is gathering the interviews. Kari Strain with the American Red Cross. "Veterans can sign up and we schedule and interview. We ask the questions. It's recorded and after its finished we create DVD copies." A copy is then given to the family and a copy of the DVD is sent to the Library of Congress which is now creating an online database of the first hand history of the realities of war. Yakima's VFW Post 379 is hosting an informational meeting about the project on Tuesday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the post (118 s 5th ave.). American Red Cross staff will be on hand to explain the project and make appointments for those veterans who would like to share their story.
