Yakima Police continue to search for clues in Saturday’s murder of 62-year-old Jerene Matta who was found in her burned out home in the 1800 block of Greenway St.

Capt. Rod Light tells KIT News Matta died of carbon monoxide poisoning in the fire that burned her home but her body was not touched by the flames. “Her body was in an area of the home that the flames didn’t touch.”

That fact is helping in the investigation says Light. He says detectives have been able to gain valuable evidence from her body.

Light says she was also beaten before the fire.

No suspects have been arrested. Police are asking that anyone with information contact YPD at 575-6200.
