Millennials, you just gotta love ‘em.  I do.  I’ve helped raise a couple of them and they drive me nuts. Especially as a guy who has spent nearly 40 years in the news and information business, it is particularly vexing to know, that according the website Mashable, millennials get most of their political news via Facebook.Millennials are those born between 1981 and 1996 (Sarah ‘83 & Dakota ’89)and the Pew Research Center says 61 percent of them reported getting their political news from the social network.

Skeptical dad here says you’ll find it alright, right between the latest dancing dog and piano playing cat and two posts down from picture of what I had for lunch.  Sheesh!

But what can you expect when they don’t know where else to find political news.  These “kids” can rewire your television but they can’t turn it on and watch the Sunday morning political shows! Pew reports millennials also had less awareness of half of the 36 news sources that Pew asked about, compared to boomers and Generation Xers.  Pew says millennials also had less interest in politics compared to boomers and Gen Xers.

The problem is the info they get often just confirms whatever they already believe, it reinforces current biases and doesn’t expand their knowledge and understanding of the bigger picture.  Hey, father knows best!
