Planning Commision Recomends A Ban on Pot

By a 4-1 vote, The Yakima Planning Commission recommended that the city ban the production, processing, and retail sale of recreational marijuana in the city because it is illegal under federal law.within city limits.

The Commission held a special meeting today which was a continuation of last week's hearing. It will recommend the ban to council at next week's meeting during another public hearing on the issue.

The City Council is expected to hear public comment on the issue next Tuesday.

Yakima City Attorney Jeff Cutter believes the city has the legal right to ban pot under the state law.
