Kelowna Shuts Out Pippins in Series Finale

In a series full of offense over the first two games, Sunday’s rubber match between the Yakima Valley Pippins and the Kelowna Falcons was much more about the pitching. Ultimately, it was Kelowna’s Brady Miller that came out on top, as his Falcons left Yakima with a 5-0 win to clinch the series.

Miller’s counterpart, Darrion Simons, was nearly as effective for the Pippins (9-6), but was hurt by defensive and offensive struggles. Simons allowed an unearned run in the 1^st inning and the Falcons (8-4) put up three more unearned runs in the 6^th to make it 4-0. Simons worked 6 innings, giving up 6 hits, 4 unearned runs, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts in the loss.

Meanwhile, Miller did his best to keep the Pippins bats from getting on the board. He allowed at least one runner to reach in five of his six innings of work, but stranded all six runners that reached. In total, the Yakima Valley offense had runners on base in seven of the nine innings, but stranded 11 and were shut out for the first time this season.

The Pippins have Monday off before heading to Wenatchee Tuesday-Thursday for their first series of the season against the Applesox. All three games in the series are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
