WENATCHEE -- The Yakima Valley Pippins responded after a five-run lead slipped through their fingers Saturday night, scoring a run in the top of the 10th inning and closing things out for a 6-5 series-clinching win over the Wenatchee AppleSox.

Ryan Garcia (UCLA) delivered the game-winning RBI single, plating Nick Sablock (Cal State Northridge), who kickstarted the extra inning affair with a leadoff walk. LHP Matthew Fish (Lewis-Clark State Colleg) closed out the ninth inning, eventually earning the win in the 10th.

The Yakima Valley Pippins (2-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the second inning as Hunter Hanson (College of Idaho) started the game off with a leadoff double, one of five extra base hits on the night.

Jay Schuyler (Univ. of San Diego) gave the Pippins an early 1-0 with an RBI single, his second RBI in as many nights. Derek Molina (Cal State Northridge) would add on with an RBI double down the left field line in the second inning, eventually leading to a three-run frame.

Tanner Simpson (Columbia Basin CC) pitched six quality innings of work in his first start of the season, allowing four runs (one earned), striking out seven while not issuing a walk. Trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the AppleSox (0-2) would rally with four runs all scoring on consecutive two-out base hits.

Josh Rios (Cal State Fullerton) pitched 2.2 innings of relief, striking out three while allowing one earned run alongside a perfect 8th inning.

Kyle Stahl (Central Washington University) provided a key spark in the lineup, posting two hits and a sacrifice bunt in the 10th inning. Seven different players posted hits in Saturday night’s win as the Yakima Valley Pippins now search for the series sweep on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. as Ryan Garcia will start on the mound.
