Pet lovers howled when they heard the punch line to GoDaddy’s Super Bowl commercial and the company bowed to the noise and pulled the spot. Sure, pet owners may be caring types, but they may also tend to be more neurotic and needy than those who do not own a pet.An online survey of more than 1,000 pet owners analyzed their personality traits and revealed those who expressed the greatest affection for their pets were also the most conscientious and neurotic. The findings suggest the qualities that make for overbearing parents might work better for those with animal companions, as they tend to need lifetime parenting.

It also revealed dog owners tend to be more extroverted, but less open to new experiences while cat owners rated as more neurotic as well as creative and adventurous. About 40 percent of those surveyed said they liked cats and dogs equally, while 38 percent identified as dog people and 19 percent as cat people.
