It's hard to believe, but Paul McCartney had never seen the videotape of the Beatles' first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. Last summer, over 40 years later he got the chance.

Paul McCartney brings his latest tour to Seattle's Safeco Field on July 19. Sir Paul also turns 71-years-old on June 18. America's love affair with McCartney and the Beatles began on February 9, 1964, when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.

In July of 2012, McCartney sat down with longtime journalist Dan Rather at Broadway's Ed Sullivan Theater to watch that performance and talk about the experience.

Of course, McCartney has performed at the Ed Sullivan theatre since 1964, including this 2009 appearance on "The Late Show" with David Letterman.
