It's that time of year again. Time for the opening of the boating season. The State Parks Boating Program and State Department of Fish and Wildlife Police will join city and county marine patrol units on the special patrols, which will start this weekend and run on several weekends through August 19. Yakima County Sheriff's deputy Scot Swallow says authorities will also be looking for other violations this weekend and later this spring and summer.
Boating under the influence is a gross misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum fine of $5,000 and 364 days in jail. the law applies to all boats. Patrols start this weekend on state waters.
