Yakima City Manager Tony O'Rourke says when the city council meets in September there will be only one request for a street name change to consider.

O'Rourke says the city council dealt with a previous request made in 2006 to rename "A" Street after Cesar Chavez. He says the city council voted against holding a public hearing on the request and it was turned down.

“So now the only item the council will deal with is the request by the veterans groups.”

At Tuesday's city council meeting the council voted 3-3 to table the issue until the previous request could be checked out. Now that it has, city officials expect the council to support the request to change a street to Jack Pendleton Blvd after Yakima's only Medal Of Honor Recipient.

If a new request is made by a different group, they would have to follow a long process that includes gathering thousands of names on a petition for a name change of a local street.
