Did you pass on the pasta salad at the 4th of July Bar-b-que out of concern for the “fattening nature” of pasta?  Looks like you might have missed out on the deliciousness for no good reason.

According to a new study, pasta doesn’t pack it on and in fact, it does the exact opposite. Now before we get to far into this, we need to point out the study is out of Italy, home to lasagna, spaghetti and fettuccini!  With that in mind we proceed.

The study, conducted by the Department of Epidemiology, I.R.C.C.S. Neuromed in Italy showed that pasta consumption is associated with a reduced likelihood of both general and abdominal obesity. The research, which was published in the journal Nutrition and Diabetes, focused on the specific role of pasta.

Researchers say that in popular views, pasta is often considered taboo when you want to lose weight and some people completely ban it from their meals.

Now they say that in light of this research, an attitude adjustment is prescribed!  The message emerging from this study, as from other scientific analyses conducted, is that Mediterranean diet, consumed in moderation and respecting the variety of all its elements including pasta, is good to your health."
