It won’t be long before your college freshman will be headed off to school.  As a parent you worry about the proper mix of studies and “life experiences”.  Do they carry equal weight down the road?  Well perhaps they do.New data shows that people who were very socially active at age 20 had better emotional health in their 50s. If that isn’t an excuse for akep party I don’t know what is…but not so fast.

University of Rochester researchers followed study participants for thirty years, and researchers say that having lots of social connections at 20 is beneficial for later life because they help us figure out who we are, and help us build a "tool" set to be drawn on later and obviously that is than knowing how to tap a keg!

College kids meet people from diverse backgrounds, with opinions and values that are different from their own, and they learn how to best manage those differences so those who had a high number of social interactions at age 20 actually had better quality relationships, that were intimate and satisfying down the line.

There is a physical health component to consider as well in that researchers discovered having few social connections is the equivalent to tobacco use." (Daily Mail)
